Priceline has two types of mystery deals, Pricebreakers and Express Deals. This is how the two deals work.

• Pricebreakers – Initially the deal shows the names of 3 similar hotels, their star ratings, retail rates, addresses, locations marked on the map, and the price you pay for any of the 3 hotels.
• Express Deals – You’re given the same details including location except for the name of the hotels. What you’re shown is a photo of the room and the area highlighted on a map.

You only know the name of the hotel after you’ve paid. Because of the deep discounts, these deals are non-refundable and non-transferable. So, make sure you’re firm with your travel plans. Hot Rates works the same as Priceline’s Pricebreakers. You are shown 3 comparable hotels, their published rates, and the price you’ve to pay for whichever hotel you’ll get. Since you know the names of the hotels, you can check them out. You’ll find which hotel you’ll be getting after you’ve paid.

Like Priceline, all Hot Rate bookings are final and there’s no refund if you decide to cancel. And you won’t be able to transfer it to someone else if you can’t make the trip. HotelsCombined strives to provide accurate information. On occasions, there might be errors such as different prices or the rooms being sold out when seen on the provider’s website. Providers constantly update their rates and inventory, which HotelsCombined might miss due to technical glitches.

Major providers include Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Trip.com, Priceline, and Vrbo. Trivago also scans smaller providers including eDreams, Morerooms, Destinia, and Prestigia to name a few. Not to mention, many leading hotel chains like Hyatt, Holiday Inn, Premier Inn, Sheraton, and Hilton.

Though Trivago scans hundreds of providers, the search returns relatively fewer properties than Kayak, TripAdvisor, and even HotelsCombined. It’s still a huge list of properties for most users though. But your options would be limited if you were to book during the peak season when the best properties have almost filled their rooms.

Rates exclude taxes and fees. Unlike its metasearch rivals, there’s no drop-down menu to include these items in the prices.
